HELP!!
We need your help for our computer lab. Several of our students have been breaking the wires to the headphones. We need each of you to send $2 for ear buds for your child. This way, each child will use the same ones every time and we will only have students replace the ones they break. If your child does not tear them up, he/she can use them again next year. Thanks. We need this money by next Friday please. Students are having to share and it would be best if each child had his/her own pair.

Thank you to everyone who came to Parent-teacher Conferences. We appreciate your time. You are your child’s first and most important teacher. If we missed you, please contact us to schedule another time. Thank you also for supporting our book fair.

I wanted make you aware that IC has come out with a new app for parents and students called Infinite Campus Mobile Portal. It allows parents or a student to instantly access the student's schedule, grades, assignments and attendance data using the app. You can think if it as a mobile version of the Parent Portal. This information can be accessed with an iPhone, iPad, or iTouch.

It does allow Push Notifications - this means that if the parent/student turns on this option, a notice will pop up on the device whenever any update is made to the student account (grade entered, marked absent from school, etc.).

Community Helpers

Captain Jeremy Prince with the Graves County Sheriff's Office visited Amy Cheek's preschool class at Farmington Elementary as part of a unit on Community Helpers. Captain Prince brought his K-9, Kilo, to visit with the class. Prince talked about what he and Kilo do to help keep the community safe. The friends enjoyed watching Kilo open the car door by himself and getting to pet him. The activity helped the students understand that law enforcement officers are friends of the community, and they do not need to be afraid of them.

Obleck:
On Wednesday, we had an amazing celebration of reading with Read Across America Day (aka, Dr. Seuss’ birthday). We read the book Bartholomew and the Oobleck. Many of our students are wanting to recreate this magic potion at home so here are the “secret” ingredients: cornstarch, water, food coloring. Add water slowly and it just takes a very small amount. Discuss with your child if you think this is a solid or a liquid.

Dates to Remember:
· March 10, Spring Pictures
· March 15-18, Book fair.
· March 16, Grandparent Lunch
· March 17, Parent-teacher conferences with report cards handed out.

Fry Words:

You may have noticed that your child has brought home a print out of the 1st 25 fry words. We are using an amazing web site that helps us quickly quiz students on words and gives us a percentage of words correct. If the word has “no” written beside it, that means your child did not instantly recognize that word. We will review the 1st 25 words until your child reaches 92% correct. We will then move on to the next set of words. Just like multiplication and other skills, without use or review we forget. We do not want the students to forget the words, so we are reviewing. Please continue the awesome work you are doing at home. We appreciate all that you do.

We are excited to have so many students accomplishing so many wonderful benchmarks. Because of this, your child’s name may be taken off of a section of the brag board if his or her name has been there for a week or two. We have to make room for the other friends who are also accomplishing great things. We are proud of everyone for working so hard.

Just a Reminder:

• February 2, SCHOOL IN SESSION ALL DAY!!!
• February 17, History Fair (very similar to the science fair.) Each home room will do a project.
• Feb. 22-25, Kentucky Week
• March 10, Parent-Teacher Conferences, report cards handed out only at the conferences.
• March 8-11, book fair.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back! We know the rest of the 2010-2011 school year is going to be great! Your child has grown so much over the past 5 months and has learned so much! They are now well on their way to first grade, so some of the homework may start to become harder. Please work with your child nightly to help them master the letters of the alphabet, letter sounds, writing their first and last name, recognizing colors words, writing numbers 1-100, and shapes. Please contact your child's teacher if you have questions, we would love to clarify and help you better understand how to help your child!
