August 30th-September 3rd Newsletter

Please DON"T Forget!
  • Our school collects Box Tops for Education. We receive 10 cents for every box top. Last year our school earned over $800. Please send them in when you buy products that have Box Tops for Education on the package.
  • We also collect can tabs for Ronald McDonald House Charities. Last year we collected more than 100,000 can tabs. These tabs are sold to help families with children who are receiving various treatments.

Essential 55:

  • Each day we learn a life skill that we reinforce throughout all of our lessons. This is a school wide program. This week we discussed:*When given something, never insult the gift or the giver. *Surprise others by performing random acts of kindness.*Don’t tell other people’s grades. *Follow along when reading in class.

Important Reminders:

  • We will now be having PE on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Please remember to wear tennis shoes all 3 days. Thanks.
  • The white sheet of paper in your child’s folder that says September 2010 Kindergarten Family Homework is an extra credit opportunity. Have your child color the box as they practice the day’s task and return to school on the first day after it is complete for a special ice cream treat with Mrs. Whitaker.

Letter Sounds:

  • We have learned all about the letters L, O, and G. Your child should know how to make the capital and lowercase letters and make the sounds. Next week, H. Don’t forget our Show and Tell on Friday.

Open House: Monday Night

Please plan on attending our Open House Monday night. The PTO meeting will begin at 5:30p.m. followed by teacher presentations from 6:00-6:20 and again from 6:20 to 6:40. Supper will be served and every child present will earn a homework pass!

August 23rd-27th

Please Don't Forget:
· We cannot have peanut butter or food containing peanuts at school. Please don’t send such items for snack. Thanks.
· Our classrooms are very cool. Your child may want to bring a jacket to school. They may leave these in their cubby or on our coat racks. Please put your child’s name in his or her jacket.

If you lose, don’t get mad. *When asked a question, ask a question in return.*Turn your head when you cough, sneeze, or burp. Use the inside of your elbow. *Don’t make rude gestures (rolling eyes, stomping foot).

· All school swim party at Oak Hills in Mayfield from 6-9pm tonight. Don’t miss it.
· Saturday the 21st, Truck and Tractor Pull, proceeds to benefit our Family Resource Center.
· Monday, PTO and open house, 5:30.
· Wednesday, Early release. Students will leave school at 12:15.

Friday...Show and Tell!

Fridays will be our show and tell day. This is a great opportunity for the student to be the teacher. Students should bring something that begins with the letter we are learning that week. Each child will have 1 minute to teach us about the item he or she brings to school. Next week our letter is O.

August 9th-13th Newsletter

First Few Days:
Our students are doing a wonderful job learning the routines of our school day. They have been terrific at following directions, transitioning from one activity to another, and visiting other parts of our school building. Thank you for making the first few days of school go so smoothly. You are your child’s first and most important teacher. You set the stage for the entire day. Thank you for doing such a wonderful job. In today’s folder you will find a homework packet for next week. Please refer to the calendar on the front. In September, you will receive one packet for the entire month. You can work on the assignments anytime. Just please remember to send them back in your child’s folder when they are due. Please remember that the teacher may not be in the room until 7:20. Students arriving before the first bell should go to the gym and wait for the bell before going to the room.

New Information:
We are purchasing a science magazine called “Studies Weekly.” Students will receive this color magazine with real photographs each week. It goes right along with everything we will be studying this year in science. The cost is $5 for the year. Please try to send this as soon as possible. Thanks.
Please remember to wear tennis shoes on PE days for your safety. Mrs. Beth’s class and Mrs. Dobson’s half-Tuesday and Wednesday. Mrs. Diane’s class and Mrs. Dobson’s half-Monday and Wednesday.
Next week we will begin really working hard on handwriting, shapes, colors, and counting to 20, We will be singing and saying days and months as well. Please ask your child each day what exciting activities they did at school. Great job checking and returning folders!! We will also continue to learn and reinforce our 3 expectations. 1. Respect Yourself. 2. Respect Others. 3. Respect our School.
