Reading News
After your child knows all 26 letter sounds, they will begin to work on reading non-sense CVC words and will get a reading book.  If your child does not know all 26 letter sounds, please spend some extra time with them every night.  This is a skill they should know by now and if they don’t they will start to get behind in class.

FRY Words
Fry words come in sets of 25 words.  When we feel your child is ready to start FRY words (knows letter sounds and can blend CVC words), we will send them home.  Some students will be receiving fry words after fall break!  Way to go!  Keep up the hard work!

Spelling Words
On Monday after Fall break, your child will bring home spelling words.  Please make sure to practice those every night.  Spelling tests will be given on Friday mornings.

Important Dates
Tuesday 10/9:  PTO Meeting at 6:00 pm
Thursday 10/11:  Parent/Teacher Conferences
Friday:  10/12:  Snack Break

Homework Packet
Your child will receive a new homework packet on Monday night.  Please make sure you place this packet in a safe place and do the Tuesday and Thursday night homework.  This is additional homework and they will continue to have nightly reading homework.  If your child misses more than 3 homework assignments in one month, they will have to serve an After School Detention.

What We Are Learning

• Counting to 50
• Writing numbers 1-10
• Continue practicing letter sounds Ll, Oo, Gg, Hh, Tt, Pp
• Practice writing the letter Aa and producing it’s sound correctly
Important Dates

Friday: Letter Sound Reward for students who can say their letter sounds without pictures
October 1st-5th: Fall Break
October 11th: Parent/Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Next week, you will receive a parent/teacher conference time schedule. Please mark the time slots that are most convenient for you. With limited space and 25 students, please mark your top 3 choices. Later in the week I will send home a note confirming your time. I look forward to meeting with you and talking about your child’s progress.

Reading Homework

• Your child is in a small group for reading class. This means they may be with someone other than their homeroom teacher. If you have any questions/concerns, please let us know by writing a note in the daily communication folder or calling us 270-328-4830. It is important that their reading bag comes to school every day for us to practice and then they will still need practice every night. Learning how to read is a slow process, but it is important that you work with your child nightly to help learn this skill.

Weekly Homework

• Every Friday your child will need to turn in 2 homework sheets for the week. If you want to turn this in early, you can but it has to be turned in by Friday. We have had several students not turn in this work. After 3 missed assignments in a month, the child will receive an after school detention.

Please help us teach your child that school work is important. If you make homework and school a priority, your child will benefit. Homework is not a punishment; it is reinforcement and practice of skills they have learned in class.

Fall on the Farm Field Trip

We had an amazing day at Fall on the Farm. The weather was wonderful and the students had an amazing time. We were proud of their behavior and hope they learned a lot!!
